Revanth, Bhatti to Lead Team to Delhi on July 24

The delegation will meet AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, will lead a high-level delegation of ministers and Congress MPs to Delhi on July 24 to lobby with the leadership to strongly raise the issue of 42 per cent BC reservations in the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament

The delegation will meet AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.

The Assembly had passed a Bill in March 2024 to enhance reservations for the Backward Classes communities to 42 per cent, but the legislation has been pending with the Union home ministry after it was referred by the Governor. The state delegation will request the national party leadership to exert pressure on the BJP-led Central government to approve the Bill without delay.

The delegation will also submit the 300-page report prepared by the Independent Expert Working Group (IEWG), headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy. The report, based on data from the caste census conducted in Telangana during November-December 2024, analyses the backwardness of more than 240 sub-castes using a composite backwardness index (CBI) and supports the justification for increased quota for backward classes.

Congress Lok Sabha MP Kiran Kumar Chamala said, “CM Revanth and ministers will meet the AICC leadership on July 24 to discuss the caste census and push for early approval of the BC quota bill. Congress MPs will also convene at Indira Bhawan at 4 pm on Tuesday to discuss strategy for raising this issue in Parliament.”

Congress Lok Sabha member Mallu Ravi added that the CM-led team will brief the national party leadership and MPs about the caste survey conducted in Telangana and its findings. “The Chief Minister will explain to both Kharge and Rahul Gandhi the need for increasing reservations based on empirical data. He will also address all Congress MPs on the same day to discuss the way forward,” he said.
