At a conference on ‘Save Inter Education’, intermediate education JAC chairman Madhusudan Reddy criticised the proposal to merge intermediate and school education, noting that students from other states come to study in the Telugu states as they appreciated the Intermediate system. He demanded that the merger proposal be abandoned, and said the JAC would launch a statewide agitation if the government persisted with it
The GJLA opposed scrapping first-year intermediate exams and Eapcet, stressing their importance for higher education and national entrance tests. The association also opposed raising the minimum pass percentage to 45 per cent, warning it could increase student dropouts. The GJLA said similar merger proposals in 1994 and 2009 were withdrawn after opposition from teachers and employees.
