Hyderabad: Malkajgiri BJP MP Etala Rajendar demanded the unconditional release of all part-time lecturers working in 12 state universities who were arrested during the Chalo Secretariat protest on Thursday. The lecturers were seeking a resolution of their long-pending demands, including a minimum salary structure and job security.
In a statement, Rajendar urged the government to regularise their services and give them due weightage in the recruitment of assistant professors. Extending his support to the lecturers’ agitation, he called on the government to consider their teaching experience and prioritise candidates with UGC-NET and PhD qualifications during the regularisation process. There are approximately 1,270 contract lecturers currently working across 12 universities in Telangana.
