Record Outlay to Make Hyderabad Hub of Bullet Trains

Railway infrastructure projects worth Rs 47,984 crore are currently under execution in Telangana, and the state’s railway network has achieved 100 per cent electrification.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad is all set to emerge as a hub for high-speed rail in India, with three bullet train corridors terminating or originating from the city. Shamshabad has been identified as the main terminus for these corridors.

The Union Budget presented in Parliament on Sunday sanctioned a record Rs 5,454 crore allocation for Telangana Railways for 2026–27. This marks a nearly six-fold increase compared to the average annual outlay of Rs 886 crore for the combined Andhra Pradesh between 2009 and 2014.

Railway infrastructure projects worth Rs 47,984 crore are currently under execution in Telangana, and the state’s railway network has achieved 100 per cent electrification.

The three high-speed rail corridors will drastically reduce travel time, with Hyderabad–Bengaluru expected to take two hours, Hyderabad–Chennai two hours 55 minutes, and Hyderabad–Pune one hour 55 minutes. The corridors are expected to form an economic growth triangle, boosting connectivity for education, health, and business.

Additional projects announced include the Guntur–Bibinagar doubling at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore, the Kazipet–Balharshah and Kazipet–Vijayawada tripling project nearing 95 per cent completion at Rs 6,000 crore, and the sanctioning of quadrupling between Secunderabad and Wadi covering Vikarabad at Rs 500 crore. MMTS expansion to Yadadri has also commenced with an outlay of Rs 412 crore.

Since 2014, Telangana has added 900 kilometres of new railway track, surpassing the total rail network of the United Arab Emirates.
