HYDERABAD: Two workers died and nine others were injured, including two seriously, after a reactor exploded at Hazelo Labs in Donthigudem village of Pochampally mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, on Friday night.
The blast occurred while six chemical compounds were being mixed. Preliminary information suggests the reactor temperature was not maintained properly, leading to an explosion about an hour later. The blast triggered a fire and a loud sound, alerting nearby villagers, who rushed to the facility and informed police.
Rescue operations were carried out by workers, villagers, police and fire teams. Naresh, 32, of Khammam district died on the spot with 90 per cent burns, while Nagi Reddy, 31, of Suryapet succumbed to similar injuries during treatment. Both had been with the company for over three years.
The injured were identified as Rajashekar Reddy, Sri Hari, Shiva Kumar Reddy, Yohan, Chenna Keshavulu, Yesudas, Shiva Shankar, Ganesh and Pentyala Ravi. Officials said Rajashekar Reddy and Shiva Kumar Reddy suffered serious injuries and are undergoing treatment in Hyderabad, while the others sustained simple injuries and are out of danger.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem. The company has provided financial assistance to their families. Police registered a case under BNS sections 106(1), 125, 281, 288 and 299 and launched an investigation. Hazelo Labs manufactures chemical products through reactions requiring heating, cooling and agitation systems.
