Ration cards of 11 Telangana families cancelled for selling fine rice to kirana shop
Tandur revenue officials cancelled the food security card holders (ration cards) of 11 families for selling fine quality rice allotted to them, to the local kirana shop owner for Rs 16 per kg in Kuchulapur village in Tandur mandal in Mancherial district.

Adilabad: Tandur revenue officials cancelled the food security card holders (ration cards) of 11 families for selling fine quality rice allotted to them, to the local kirana shop owner for Rs 16 per kg in Kuchulapur village in Tandur mandal in Mancherial district. The ration card of one Mahesh, who bought that rice on Saturday was also cancelled. Police booked cases against Mahesh.
The incident is first of its kind after the state government started distribution of fine quality rice. Officials got information from sources that the families sold 1.91 quintals fine fine quality rice.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Tandur tahasildar Imran Khan Patan said revenue and civil supply officials conducted an inquiry into the incident and the 11 families confessed to selling the rice to Mahesh, who runs the Kirana shop.
He said Mahesh, who bought the rice, also confessed to it and they submitted the report to the district collector, Kumar Deepak.
Imran Khan said they cancelled the ration cards on instructions of Mancherial collector Kumar Deepak, following due procedure for the cancellation of the cards.
He said the state government took a serious note of the sale and observed that a few people used to sell Doddu Biyyam too in the past.
Imran Khan said selling Doddu Biyyam was high in the area and added that the incident of fine quality rice had come to their notice a few days ago, but they were waiting for the collector’s orders to take action.
