Big Demand for Ration Cards, Indiramma Houses in Adilabad

Adilabad: The gram and ward sabhas held from January 21 to 24 in Nirmal, Adilabad, Mancherial, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts saw a big demand for welfare schemes, particularly ration cards and Indiramma houses.
In the erstwhile Adilabad district, officials received 1.41 lakh applications for ration cards and 68,000 applications for Indiramma houses, reflecting the public's reliance on these essential schemes.
The state government announced that 3,500 Indiramma houses would be allocated to each Assembly constituency, with eligible beneficiaries selected in a phased manner. However, delays in previous housing schemes have raised concerns among residents. Despite the completion of some 2bhk houses under earlier initiatives, they remain undistributed, while others are still under construction. The poor, many of whom live in rented accommodations, are pinning their hopes on the Indiramma housing scheme to secure permanent shelter.
M. Satyam, a resident of Adilabad town, expressed optimism about the scheme. "Thousands of poor people who have been living in rented houses are now hopeful of owning a home through the Indiramma housing scheme," he said.
Officials also noted a surge in demand for ration cards due to the long gap since the previous government distributed them. Many new families, formed through marriages or separations within joint families, have applied for ration cards during this period.
In Adilabad district alone, officials received 41,080 applications for ration cards and 22,309 for Indiramma houses. Mancherial district recorded 35,824 applications for ration cards and 18,637 for houses. Similarly, Nirmal district saw 39,982 applications for ration cards and 15,962 for houses, while Komaram Bheem Asifabad district received 24,290 applications for ration cards and 11,490 for houses.
The overwhelming demand for ration cards and Indiramma houses underscores their significance to families across the district. In contrast, other schemes like Rythu Bharosa and Atmiya Bharosa, which cater to the farming community, attracted relatively fewer applicants.
Ration Cards, Indiramma Houses Most Sought After Sops
A large number of applications were received for four new welfare schemes in the erstwhile Nalgonda district, with ration cards and Indiramma houses being the most sought-after.
In Nalgonda district alone, 1,17,644 applications were submitted, with 53,844 applications for ration cards, 47,485 for Indiramma houses, 844 for Rythu Bharosa, and 15,485 for Indiramma Atmeeya Bharosa.
In Suryapet district, a total of 77,037 applications were received. Of these, 23,798 were for ration cards, 28,225 for Indiramma houses, 2,828 for Rythu Bharosa, and 22,186 for Indiramma Atmeeya Bharosa.
Meanwhile, Bhongir district saw a total of 70,832 applications submitted for ration cards.
Officials reported that there are currently 10.07 lakh white ration cards in the erstwhile Nalgonda district. They estimate that the number of ration cards could increase by up to 10 per cent following the issuance of new cards under the welfare schemes.
