Ramchander Rao Slams CM, Ministers for Delhi Camp amid Farm Crisis

Rao demanded that the Congress government should announce its plans to provide irrigation water during the Rabi season

Hyderabad: Slamming the Congress government in Telangana, state BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Monday said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, ministers and ruling party MLAs are camping in Delhi ignoring the agriculture crisis in the state due to El Nino.

Though the government had announced that the CM and ministers would on Monday discuss the drought-like conditions prevailing in the state due to the rainfall deficit, it has been cancelled, he said. He claimed that a farmer died by suicide in Adilabad district due to distress.

"When farmers are dying here, ministers and MLAs go to Delhi on a special flight. What negligence towards Telangana people and farmers. What will happen to farmers here. Do you need to go there to attend Rahul Gandhi's 'Tughlaqi' activity," he asked.

By using the word 'Tughlaqi', Rao was alluding to the Delhi sultan, Muhammad bin Tughlaq, who was known for whimsical decisions. There is severe water and electricity shortage in Telangana, including Hyderabad, he told reporters.

Rao demanded that the Congress government should announce its plans to provide irrigation water during the Rabi season and also implement the PM Fasal Bima Yojana (crop insurance scheme).

He announced that the BJP would take up an agitation against the Congress government if the distress of farmers is not addressed.

He said the BJP would not allow Gandhi to enter Telangana until the Congress government implements its six 'poll guarantees'. Telangana people would stall Gandhi's visit, he said.

Taking exception to the Congress seeking a meeting with the Chief Justice of India over the alleged irregularities during SIR, Rao, a senior advocate in Telangana High Court, asked how a meeting can be sought with the Supreme Court judges.

He said a petition should be filed in the apex court if Congress has evidence of its contention. Hitting out at CM Revanth Reddy's 'BJP is Ravan, Congress is Ram' comments in Goa on October 11, Rao recalled the chief minister's past remarks that "Congress means Muslims and Muslims means Congress".

"It should be Osama Bin Laden for Congress. How can it be Ram," he asked. Reddy recently said that Ram is rich man's god, while Shiva is poor man's god, Rao said.

Alleging that the Congress does not have faith in Lord Ram and the party had made efforts to stall the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya, he said they had even deployed lawyers in the Supreme Court to argue against the construction of the temple.

Neither Gandhi nor any other leader visited the Ayodhya Ram temple after its construction was completed, he said.

He also took exception to hardline organisations in Bangladesh expressing support to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protests in India.

He said the Congress, INDIA bloc and the AAP cannot hurt India and that the country is not like Nepal or Bangladesh or Sri Lanka.

Responding to Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar's challenge that he is ready to show to Rao the deletion of voters' names from electoral rolls, the BJP leader said he is ready to accept the challenge.

The minister should make the people whose votes were "deleted" come to the Chief Electoral Officer's office where they can be checked, he said.
