Ramappa region, Nallamalla’s Somasilla to be developed as iconic tourist centres: Centre

Centre sanctions funds for development of tourist places in Telangana

Hyderabad: Ramappa Region Sustainable Tourism Circuit and Somasilla Wellness and Spiritual Retreat Nallamala in Telangana will be developed by the Ministry of Tourism as iconic tourist centres to global scale.

These sites would be developed under ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) – Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale’. These two sites were among the 40 places in 23 States including Andhra Pradesh to be developed by the Ministry.

The Gandikota - enriching the fort and gorge experience and Akhanda Godavari with Havelock Bridge and pushkar ghat in Rajamahendravaram, in Andhra Pradesh were also included in SASCI.

The Ministry has sanctioned Rs. 73.74 crore for the Ramappa Region Sustainable Tourism Circuit while Rs. 68.10 crore for Somasilla Wellness and Spiritual Retreat Nallamala. It sanctioned Rs. 77.91 crore for Gandikota site while Rs.94.44 crore for Akhanda Godavari project.

Replying to a question on development of lesser known tourism sites in the country posed by Ashokrao Shankarrao Chavan in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the Central government sanctioned 40 projects in 23 States for Rs.3295.76 crore.

These projects were sanctioned by SASCI – Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale in the financial year 2024-25, with the primary objective to comprehensively develop iconic tourist centres in the country, branding and marketing them at global scale. It is expected that the scheme may help local economies and generation of employment at the destinations, where projects have been sanctioned.
