KARIMNAGAR: The Peddapalli district administration has organised a trekking and walking event at the historic Ramagiri Khila near Begumpet in Ramagiri mandal on Sunday to promote natural tourism and attract environmentalists and tourists.
The event, with the slogan ‘Mana Zilla-Ramagiri Khilla’, aims to familiarise participants with the fort’s history and promote its natural surroundings, including greenery, hillocks and rock formations.
The trek will begin at 6 am from Begampet and cover the fort, passing historic structures, landmarks and other sites.
Participants have been advised not to damage trees, saplings or other vegetation, or leave plastic waste on the hillocks. They have also been asked to avoid writing on walls and structures or disturbing historic landmarks.
Meanwhile, the state government has sanctioned ͅ₹5 crore through the tourism department to develop Ramagiri Khila as a tourist destination and preserve its historical heritage. The initiative was taken up with the support of local MLA and IT and industries minister D. Sridhar Babu.
The proposed works include a compound wall, steps to the fort, parking facilities, a welcome arch, rest shelters, a children’s play area, washrooms, drinking water facilities, restoration of wells on the hilltops, roads, landscaping, sanitation and lighting.
The Central government has also sanctioned a 2.1-km ropeway under the Parvatamala scheme. An allocation of ₹2.46 crore has been made for the ropeway and basic facilities.
Located about six kilometres from Begumpet, Ramagiri Khila was built on hillocks in the first century. Its stone structures have stood for centuries.
