Rajiv Rahadhari JAC wants revision of road widening

Property owners along Rajiv Rahadhari have raised serious concerns over a proposed road expansion that could affect thousands of homes and commercial establishments

Hyderabad: Property owners along Rajiv Rahadhari have raised serious concerns over a proposed road expansion that could affect thousands of homes and commercial establishments. The project, which originally planned to widen the road to 200 metres, is being reconsidered following a demand by the property owners’ association joint action committee.

The road expansion, stretching from the Gymkhana ground to Thumkunta, has stirred anxiety among local residents since its announcement. Misinformation circulating on social media has only deepened the panic, with posts suggesting imminent, harmful changes to the area. Many property owners, who have invested heavily in shops along this busy highway and thickly populated areas nearby, fear that the road work could drive away tenants and devalue their investments.

“We have taken loans to build these establishments, and now many tenants are leaving because of the uncertain future,” said Telukunta Sathish Gupta, JAC chairman.

The situation prompted intervention from the Telangana High Court, which has halted the works of the HMDA pending further instructions. Gupta noted that a survey conducted on Monday — focused on road markings — was misinterpreted on social media as being directly linked to the expansion, thereby intensifying the residents’ concerns.

In response to inquiries about the surveys, Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) CEO Madhukar Naik clarified that HMDA had carried out various studies, including an enjoyment survey and a physical land survey, with assistance from SCB.
