Raja Singh said that ‘urban Naxals’ were exhibiting their “true colours’ when the nation was celebrating 'Operation Sindoor’ being carried out by the armed forces against terror hideouts in Pakistan. He condemned the comments made by Prof. Surepalli Sujatha, Telangana Education Commission advisory member and Satavahana University facility, against the name of the operation. She has since withdrawn her social media post.
In a statement, Raja Singh asked why the ‘urban Naxals’ were silent when the terrorists claimed 26 lives and wiped out the sindoor of women. If the state government felt that her comments fit with treason against the country, why no action was initiated against her, he asked.
In a letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, BJP deputy floor leader Payal Shankar sought action against Prof. Sujatha for her remarks. He appreciated the state government for cancelling leave for government employees, and ordering the identification and reporting of unauthorised immigrants as well as for taking out a rally to support and the Indian Army.
At Satavahana University on Thursday, scores of students and members of the BJP’s youth and women wings, along with party leaders, held a protest demanding action against Prof. Sujatha. The protestors assembled at the university gates and alleged that her comments had insulted the Indian Army and belittled the sacrifices made by soldiers.
Sources said she has not been seen on campus since the controversy broke out. BJP women leaders reportedly looked for her and then submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor demanding her immediate suspension. Party leaders met with Karimnagar police commissioner Gouse Alam and sought legal action against the academic.
