Rainwater Floods Home, Kills Man in Hyderabad
An intense spell of rain caused water to flood the house, rising to a depth of at least three feet. Padmarao is suspected of having been inebriated and in a deep sleep, which may have prevented him from realising that the room was filling with water. Upon noticing the flooding, his mother rushed to wake him but found him unresponsive.

Hyderabad: A 40-year-old man drowned after rainwater inundated his house in Dayanand Colony, Suraram, on Tuesday night. According to Suraram inspector S. Bharath Kumar, the deceased has been identified as K. Padmarao, 40, who lived with his 70-year-old mother, Krishnaveni. The incident occurred while Padmarao was asleep in his room and his mother was in another.
“Despite attempting to wake him up several times, he did not respond. She then tried to drag him out of the house,” the inspector said. Unable to pull him out by herself, she called neighbours for help. Together, they managed to bring him outside, but by then, he was already dead. Locals dialled 100 and alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem.
His wife, Jyoti, was informed of the incident and later lodged a complaint with the Suraram police, who registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS. Speaking to the media, a local resident involved in the rescue said, “The last we saw him, he was seated outside the house and went in as it started raining. After we were alerted by his mother, we helped bring him out, but he was already gone. His wife and children no longer live with him.”
Regarding the suspicion of alcohol consumption, the inspector said, “We can confirm this only after the postmortem reports are out, but we strongly suspect he might have been inebriated.” As for the cause of the flooding, investigating officer Leema noted, “The house, which is around 40 years old, is situated nearly three feet below road level. We suspect this could have caused the waterlogging.” Further investigation into the incident is underway.
