Hyderabad:After days of sweltering heat, Hyderabad on Saturday saw an abrupt change in weather, with strong winds and heavy evening showers soaking several parts of the city. The rain, which caught many by surprise, brought temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave but also disrupted regular movement, especially for pedestrians and motorists who scrambled for cover.
According to real-time data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), several eastern and northern parts of Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri district recorded significant rainfall. The highest was reported in Ghatkesar’s Ghanpur (NTPC) at 53.5 mm, followed by 40.5 mm in Singapore Township, 38.5 mm at the GHMC Zonal Office in Uppal, and 36.5 mm near the PHC in Peerzadiguda. At the time of reporting, intermittent rain and storms continued to affect parts of the city, particularly the eastern suburbs and densely populated neighbourhoods.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy skies and a possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershowers over the next 48 hours. Temperatures are expected to hover around a maximum of 40°C and a minimum of 26°C. Gusty winds are also likely during late afternoons and evenings.
In view of the developing conditions, IMD has issued an orange alert for 14 districts, including Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad and Siddipet.
