Railway Police To Deploy AI-driven CCTV To Boost Security
Priority would be given to strengthening the Pan-India criminal gang records database

Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) will deploy AI-driven video analytics and integrated CCTV systems to strengthen predictive and preventive policing, as well as detection and investigation, to enhance the safety and security of passengers and their belongings.
Disclosing this at the annual press meet on Wednesday, GRP Police Superintendent, Secunderabad Railways, Chandana Deepti, said priority would be given to strengthening the Pan-India criminal gang records database and ensuring its effective use for coordinated action to track down offenders and put them behind bars.
She said GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams would intensify frisking and conduct surprise checks to curb drug trafficking. High-definition night-vision CCTV cameras have already been installed on engines and in the compartments of express trains to prevent accidental and suicidal deaths and to identify and arrest stone pelters.
Integrated real-time data from Rail Madad (139) is also being used to improve response time and facilitate prompt registration of FIRs. Sharing crime statistics, Deepti said molestation and POCSO cases increased to 16 this year compared to six cases in 2024. Bodily and other offences declined to 1,538 from 1,971 reported last year. However, ordinary theft cases in trains and on platforms rose to 1,013 from 829 in 2024.
Overall, total offences, including murder for gain, murder, attempt to murder, dowry harassment, stupefying drug cases, ordinary theft, kidnapping, automobile theft, possession of play stations, POCSO and bodily offences, declined to 1,607 this year from 2,835 last year.
She said Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) teams rescued 500 children this year, including 75 girls and 425 boys, compared to 84 children rescued in 2024, comprising 25 girls and 59 boys. Accidental, suicidal and natural deaths on the rail network declined from 1,571 in 2024 to 1,371 this year.
Under the NDPS Act, 70 cases were booked this year and eight under the Excise Act, compared to 54 NDPS cases and five Excise Act cases in 2024.
Property worth ₹47.22 lakh was recovered this year, compared to ₹43.17 lakh in 2024. However, property losses rose to ₹489.95 crore this year from ₹374.73 crore reported last year.
