Raghunathapalem To Emerge As Solar Power Village Soon

Officials identified 821 houses as suitable for installation of rooftop solar panels out of the 1,081 houses covered under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides free electricity up to 200 units.

NALGONDA: Raghunathapalem village in Khammam district is set to emerge as a ‘solar power village’ with rooftop solar panels proposed for 821 houses.

Officials identified 821 houses as suitable for installation of rooftop solar panels out of the 1,081 houses covered under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides free electricity up to 200 units.

District collector Divakara T.S. inspected the rooftop solar panel installation works in the village on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector said Raghunathapalem had been selected as a pilot project for a ‘solar power village’ as part of efforts to promote renewable energy use. He reviewed the progress of rooftop solar installations, and officials informed him that installations had been completed in 110 households.

Divakara said the village would soon be transformed into a ‘solar power village’. A minimum 2-kilowatt rooftop solar system was being installed in the selected houses, he said.

He directed officials to prepare a special action plan for installing rooftop solar systems on community halls and government buildings in the village. Steps would also be taken to facilitate the sale of surplus electricity generated through rooftop systems back to the grid, he added.

The collector also reviewed the ongoing Census-2027 enumeration in the village and appealed to residents to cooperate with Census staff by providing accurate information. He clarified that no government welfare schemes would be adversely affected because of the Census exercise.

Officials from various departments accompanied the collector during the visit.
