Rabies Fear Dogs Old Adilabad Towns

Bhainsa sub-collector Sanketh Kumar Ajmeera visited the government hospital on Monday and consoled victims. He assured residents that steps would be taken to control the stray dog menace in the town.

Adilabad: Residents of Bhainsa town are reeling under the menace of stray dogs and have urged municipal authorities to take urgent measures. Frequent incidents of dog attacks have been reported, with children, the elderly and youth falling victim. The problem is equally severe in Adilabad municipality and Indravelli town.

Locals said several people were attacked in the bus stand area, Bhattigalli and near Kadda Hotel in Bhainsa on Monday, and were treated at the government hospital. Stray dogs are also chasing commuters and pedestrians in colonies and on main roads.

Municipal officials, however, have been accused of neglecting the issue, citing high cost of sterilisation and relocation. Catching, sterilising and post-care of each dog costs around Rs 1,000, and municipalities and gram panchayats lack dedicated funds to tackle the menace. Earlier, Adilabad municipal staff sterilised some dogs, but residents say the problem persists.

There have been instances of single dogs going on sprees of attacks, injuring multiple people in a short span. Fear of rabies has spread among residents, with parents keeping children indoors and restricting play in front of houses. A middle-aged man reportedly died of rabies last year in Bhainsa. Locals suspect that dogs released into nearby forests return to town after some days, leaving the situation unchanged.
