Qureshi Appeals to SHRC Against MLA Kaushik Reddy’s Communal Remark

Petition to Human Rights Commission cites alleged communal comments at Jatara

Hyderabad: A formal complaint has been filed with the Telangana State Human Rights Commission, seeking action against Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy over remarks allegedly made against a senior IPS officer during the Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara at Veenanka village in Karimnagar district.

Vice-chairman and president of the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society, Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi, submitted the complaint on February 2, accusing the MLA of making unprovoked and communal remarks against Gaush Alam, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Karimnagar.

According to the complaint, the incident took place on January 29 when police officials were managing traffic at the Jatara. It alleged that the MLA targeted the IPS officer by referring to his religion and accusing him of attempting religious conversions. Qureshi alleged that the MLA said the Karimnagar Police Commissioner was “a Muslim destroying Hindu culture,” accused him of converting Hindus, and claimed that he wanted to “turn India into another Pakistan,” while explicitly naming the officer’s religion. The complaint noted that the officer was not present at the location and had no connection with the incident.

The representation described the remarks as baseless and malicious, stating that they harmed communal harmony and undermined the dignity and independence of the civil services. It further said that such allegations hurt the religious sentiments of Muslim officers serving in Telangana and infringed upon their constitutional rights.

The complaint maintained that the episode amounted to an attack on peaceful coexistence and the morale of public servants discharging their duties impartially. It argued that publicly naming an officer’s religion and linking it to false allegations of conversion violated constitutional protections, and sought appropriate legal action against the MLA.
