Quality Push in Govt Schools Increases Admissions in Rajanna Sircilla District
The Badi Bata initiative has successfully raised awareness among the public, resulting in a remarkable increase in enrolment in government schools for the current academic year.

Karimnagar: Government schools in Rajanna Sircilla district have witnessed a significant rise in admissions and a notable shift in parental preferences, owing to improved facilities and academic performance driven by state government initiatives. The district education department’s extensive outreach campaign, known as the Badi-Bata programme, has played a key role in this transformation.
The Badi Bata initiative has successfully raised awareness among the public, resulting in a remarkable increase in enrolment in government schools for the current academic year.
According to officials, the district has a total of 511 government schools, including 22 Gurukul schools and 13 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs). S. Vinod Kumar, the in-charge district education officer (DEO), told Deccan Chronicle that the Badi Bata programme has received a highly encouraging response from parents. Compared to last year’s 183 new admissions, this year has seen an additional 1,276 new admissions across government schools in the district.
The DEO also attributed the rise in enrolment to multiple factors: increased mess charges at gurukuls and residential schools, free distribution of textbooks, notebooks, and other learning materials, and the introduction of the phone mitra initiative, which allows students to contact their parents and report concerns to authorities.
L. Raju, headmaster of the Mandal Parishad Primary (MPP) School in Mallaram village, shared that his school, which had started the academic year with just 10 admissions, now has over 50 students enrolled. He noted that the school campus has been developed with essential facilities, creating a welcoming environment that has encouraged enrolment.
Raju further added that the state government is undertaking multiple measures to strengthen the public education system. As a result, both parents and students are gradually changing their perceptions of government schools and are showing greater interest in enrolling.
