Hyderabad: Public Garden, which attracts around 2,000 health-conscious citizens every morning, is set to host an open gym. The 180-year-old garden will have 27 machines, designed especially for the elderly and women. The gym is ready, and officials are awaiting its inauguration. Sources said August 15 is being considered a suitable date for the launch.
Abdul Rawoof, a resident of Red Hills, said, “This is one of the gifts from the government to all the walkers, joggers, and other fitness groups who gather here in the mornings and evenings. This gym will help us engage in additional fitness activities.”
According to Galli Venkat Reddy, the contractor entrusted with the work, “This GHMC initiative took two months to complete and cost around ₹16 lakh. The equipment is scientifically advanced, and the facility is ready to open.”
The Public Garden, Bagh-e-Aam, was built by the Nizam to serve the common people and continues to fulfil that purpose. It remains a meeting ground for all communities and families.
Sunil Parmar, a Nampally resident who has been a regular walker in the garden for 20 years, said, “Over the years, the authorities have introduced several activity-oriented spaces here, but there should be proper monitoring. The children’s park is often used by adults, which should be regulated. Maintenance and cleanliness are also essential.”
