ADILABAD: Members of various social organisations and associations, along with the family members of deceased Thalandi Shravani (Rani), staged a protest in front of the Asifabad Collectorate on Monday, demanding stern action against Shivarla Sathaiah and his family members for allegedly killing Shravani in Gherre village of Dahegaon mandal, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. The victim’s family alleged that it was an honour killing.
According to police, Shravani, 21, and Shekhar fell in love and got married against the wishes of Shekhar’s parents at a temple in Bellampalli on October 9, 2024. Shekhar belongs to the Bestha community, while Shravani was from the Pardhan tribal community.
On October 18, 2025, Shravani, who was nine months pregnant, was brutally hacked to death with an axe by her father-in-law, Sathaiah, when she was alone at home. Shravani’s father, Chennaiah, alleged that Shekhar may have also been involved in the conspiracy to kill her. He demanded strict action against Sathaiah, Shivarla Kumar, and Kavitha, and sought the registration of a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He further claimed that the murder was premeditated and aimed at preventing the birth of the child.
The victim’s family urged the collector and police superintendent to visit their village, conduct a thorough investigation, and ensure stern punishment for the accused.
Leaders of the Telangana Girijana Sangham, CPM, AIDWA, and Adivasi Gondwana Koya Sangham also met district officials, demanding that the government set up a fast-track court for the trial, provide ₹25 lakh compensation, and allot five acres of land to the victim’s family.
