Propagate Congress Ideology To Counter Divisive Politics: Bhatti

Deputy CM urges unity, warns against religion-based politics at Congress formation day event

Nalgonda: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday said the propagation of Congress ideology was essential to counter religiously divisive politics allegedly promoted by certain forces.

Addressing the 140th Congress Formation Day celebrations at the District Congress Office in Nalgonda, he, without naming the BJP, alleged that some political parties were creating religious divisions among people for political gain. While such tactics might yield short-term benefits, he warned that they would cause irreparable damage to society. He called upon people to remain vigilant and united to thwart such conspiracies, asserting that Congress ideology alone offered a path to safeguarding the nation’s unity.

He urged Congress workers and leaders to organise a massive Congress Flag Festival across the state on January 26 to explain programmes implemented by Congress governments for the nation, the state, and all sections of society. He appealed for Congress flags to be hoisted on every house, pamphlets on party ideology to be distributed, and party scarves to be worn on the day.

Recalling welfare initiatives, he said the Congress government had introduced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to provide assured employment and minimum income to the poor. He accused the BJP-led Centre of trying to dilute the scheme, which, he said, would severely harm the poor. He added that the earlier Congress government had allocated ₹1 lakh crore to the scheme during its tenure.

He said the Congress played a key role in shaping India as the world’s largest democracy and a major economic power by upholding democratic principles. The party, he added, brought about social transformation by addressing inequalities, promoting secularism, empowering women, and working towards the abolition of untouchability. He noted that food shortages at the time of Independence were overcome through initiatives such as the Green Revolution, White Revolution, and Five-Year Plans, enabling India to later export foodgrains.

Stating that the Constitution enabling India to function as the world’s largest democracy was framed under a Congress government, he said the country had witnessed peaceful transfers of power after elections, unlike several neighbouring nations, and credited this to the Congress. He also pointed out that despite lacking numerical strength in Parliament for decades, it was the Congress that delivered a separate Telangana state after a prolonged statehood movement.
