Prisons RETREAT–2026 Concludes With Reform Push
Anand commended the department for organising RETREAT–2026 and praised the establishment of de‑addiction centres in prisons

HYDERABAD: The valedictory session of RETREAT–2026 of the Telangana Prisons & Correctional Services Department was held at SICA, Chanchalguda, in the presence of C V Anand, special chief secretary for Home, Government of Telangana, on Wednesday.
Superintendents of various prisons presented brief reports on security, rehabilitation, de‑addiction and inmate welfare, reflecting the department’s reform‑oriented approach.
Addressing the gathering, Anand drew on his administrative and policing experience, recalling initiatives such as the Krushi Venkateshwar Rao bank fraud case, the creation of Lake Police, and the introduction of the SHE App for women’s safety. He also remembered his tenure as Hyderabad commissioner of police, during which he appointed the first woman Station House Officer in the 175‑year history of the city police.
Anand commended the department for organising RETREAT–2026 and praised the establishment of de‑addiction centres in prisons. He suggested expanding such facilities to all district jails, strengthening security through modern technologies like drones, enhancing family counselling, and increasing video conferencing facilities. He further stressed adopting principles of “Cure, Pure, and Rare” to create environmentally sustainable, carbon‑neutral prison spaces.
In her concluding remarks, DG prisons Soumya Mishra thanked Anand for his guidance and appreciated the active participation of officers, reiterating the department’s commitment to a secure, humane and reform‑oriented correctional system.
The session marked the successful conclusion of RETREAT–2026, reinforcing the vision of prisons as centres of reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration. Senior officers including Sri N Murali Babu, Inspector General of Prisons, Dr D Srinivas, DIG of Prisons (Hyderabad Range), and Sri M Sampath, DIG of Prisons (Warangal Range), were present.
