Prison Department Launches Cherlapalli Lake Project

Dr Mishra added that CCTV cameras would be installed around the lake and integrated with Cherlapally Central Prison for monitoring.

Hyderabad: The prisons department on Tuesday launched the Cherlapalli lake restoration and development project in collaboration with HYDRA, with CSR support from Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

Director‑General of Prisons Dr Soumya Mishra said restoration of lakes was vital for water security, groundwater recharge and environmental protection. She noted the rejuvenated lake would benefit neighbouring colonies, the prison agricultural colony and Cherlapally prison.

She said open‑air prison inmates would actively participate in restoration works, gaining vocational skills, self‑esteem and responsibility. “After release, suitable inmates could be considered for employment in lake protection and security, aiding rehabilitation,” she said.

Dr Mishra added that CCTV cameras would be installed around the lake and integrated with Cherlapally Central Prison for monitoring. She appreciated HYDRA commissioner A.V. Ranganath for technical guidance and thanked IOCL for CSR support.
