Charminar have set their stoves for simmering from 3 am. This is a result of a new trend of early morning food catching up among youth in Hyderabad.

There are options too like the biryani and the tiffin items, the youngsters are making out plans for the early morning usually followed by night outs.

While this seems harmless, parents are concerned with the notable mishaps during the early hours.

“Early morning food plan makes me excited. With a week full of workload, I can make an excuse to avoid sleeping on Friday night. And since it is one night, we cousins plan a couple of things for the night and conclude it with an early morning breakfast,” said Ch Akshitha, a business analyst at a multinational company. As the eldest cousin takes care of all that is required for this outing, she said there is fun added with safety. Not just the nightlife crowd but this culture came to the rescue of the night shift job holders. An MNC worker Daniel (name changed) said, “I work for the US system. My timings are already odd. While leaving home at around 5 am, steaming hot idlis keeps me sane to reach home which is in the other corner of the city.”

There are few sellers where they sell only a couple of items, like the idli and vada on their makeshift vehicle, park at a tea stall, set up the vessels and boom, the crowd gathers in no time. Daniel also, “One plate idli or maybe one more and one cup of tea is my boost for the drive.” A party goer, T. Vinod, shared how they witnessed the new trend for the first time. “A usual gathering with friends in the evening ended up in the pub and continued with an after party at one of the friend’s houses. With limited drinking, we thought we could take a ride. That’s when we noticed food trucks and crowds around them at KPHB Colony. We too hopped in, and ordered some breakfast items like Idli and dosa.” Vamsee Naga Sai M, a techie, said that this is not a new trend, as early morning food was available at places like Malakpet, Nampally and Old City. However, it is getting popular at other places also. “I eat between 4 to 5 am and roam around till sunrise. I then go home and sleep till the office hours.” Parents, however, are concerned over the security of their children.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a parent of two teenagers said: “They are in their young age. There have been reports of accidents, wherein a young boy who had gone out for a ride in the early morning hours, ended up in a disaster.” Adding to this, a police officer said, “There are timings related to the closing of the establishments. However, there is no officially sanctioned time to open. However, the establishments do not seek police or the traffic police any permission. As long as there is no public nuisance or overcrowding, we do not interfere in their business. But when there is overcrowding or mess, we will make our presence felt.”
