Pranahita River Overflows Inundating Cotton Crops In Komaram Bheem Asifabad
Flash floods disrupt road connectivity: Reports

ADILABAD: Heavy backwaters from the Pranahita River have inundated standing cotton crops across several mandals in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, while flash flooding also disrupted road connectivity in parts of the region. In Bejjur, Penchikalpet and Dahegaon mandals, fields in Somini, Thikkapalli, Bandalguda, Koyapalli, Mogavelli and Talai villages (Bejjur), Gudem (Chinthalamanepalli) and Rampur (Dahegaon) were submerged by backflow from the swollen river.
Rampur farmer Bore Nagesh reported that some 200 acres of cotton were submerged in his village and adjoining areas, causing massive losses. He urged the state government to survey the damage promptly and provide fair compensation.
Meanwhile, the overflow of a rivulet between Talai and Papanpet villages in Bejjur disrupted local road links. In Mancherial district, floodwaters also submerged crops in Kotapalli and Vemanpalli mandals. District officials have issued alerts for residents of Penchikalpet, Dahegaon and Bejjur mandals.
Adivasi leader Soyam Chinnaiah of Sulugupalli observed that annual monsoon inundations have become routine, calling for construction of a barrage on the Pranahita to control backwaters and prevent future crop losses. Farmers along the Penganga River likewise fear their cotton and soybean fields may flood if water levels rise. Last year, the government sanctioned ₹10,000 per acre in compensation for similar monsoon damage.
Villages in Jainad and Bela mandals of Adilabad district also reported severe losses in the previous monsoon, underscoring the urgent need for long-term flood-control measures along both the Pranahita and Penganga rivers.
