PPP Mode May Play Crucial Role in Healthcare: HRDA
HRDA said the PPP model promises expansion, innovation and improved infrastructure, however, concerns persist that unchecked growth could gradually transform healthcare from a public service into a profit-driven marketplace

Rising private investments and fee-structures risk aligning hospitals and medical colleges more with financial incentives rather than with community health needs, HRDA said.
Hyderabad: The public–private-partnership (PPP) is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of India’s healthcare delivery and medical education system, the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), said.
Questions were raised over whether expanding private participation will strengthen public services or accelerate commercialisation.
As the governance frameworks increasingly accommodate private stakeholders, PPPs may soon influence not only who receives medical treatment or education, but also who controls critical health infrastructure, HRDA’s senior representative, Dr Bandari Rajkumar, said.
In its statement, the HRDA further said the PPP model promises expansion, innovation and improved infrastructure, however, concerns persist that unchecked growth could gradually transform healthcare from a public service into a profit-driven marketplace.
Rising private investments and fee-structures risk aligning hospitals and medical colleges more with financial incentives rather than with community health needs, the statement, said.
This shift could make medical education less accessible, pushing aspiring doctors towards high-return specialities and it would also increase the cost of becoming a doctor and the cost of healthcare.
