Power dept gears up for summer

Hyderabad: To meet the rising demand in the coming summer, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Ltd. (TGSPDCL ) has introduced a summer action plan. The department toll-free number 1912, available only in Hyderabad so far, has been extended to rural areas, enabling consumers to report power outages and electrical emergencies. With the directives of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, measures have been taken to improve consumer services.

TGSPDCL managing director Musharraf Faruqui has appointed senior engineers as nodal officers to oversee power distribution across various districts. The nodal officers are - director (operations) Dr N. Narasimhulu for Nagarkurnool, director (projects) Nanda Kumar for Sangareddy and director (commercial) K. Sai Baba for Siddipet. Additionally, chief engineers P. Bikshapati (Nalgonda), P. Anand (Vikarabad), K. Bhaskar (Gadwal), Ranganath Roy (Wanaparthy), Prabhakar (Narayanpet), Chakrapani (Hyderabad), Narasimha Swamy (Mahabubnagar), Pandya (Ranga Reddy), Bala Swamy (Medak) and Kamesh (Medchal-Malkajgiri) have been designated for respective districts. Superintending engineers Pratima Shome (Yadadri) and B. Ravi (Suryapet) have also been assigned to monitor power supply in their regions.

In January 2024, the state's electricity demand increased to approximately 14,850 MW, with the TGSPDCL handling 9,500 MW. With demand expected to go up further during the Rabi season and summer, Musharraf Faruqui has directed officials to stay vigilant and proactive in managing the power supply efficiently.
