Telangana: Posters Out on Heatstroke, Mango Ripening

Damodar Rajanarsimha requested people to seek immediate medical assistance if symptoms such as fatigue or dizziness occur

Hyderabad: Health minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha on Monday launched two separate awareness posters on heatstroke prevention and safe mango ripening methods during a public event at the TSMSIDC office.

The first poster, prepared by the health department, lists basic precautions that citizens should adopt to reduce the risk of heatstroke. The minister recommended avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, staying hydrated, dressing in light fabrics, and using protective accessories such as umbrellas or caps. He requested people to seek immediate medical assistance if symptoms such as fatigue or dizziness occur.

The minister encouraged bystanders to call the 108 emergency service when someone is affected by heat and health officials have been instructed to initiate awareness campaigns across districts, especially targeting those most vulnerable like children, elderly persons, and pregnant women.

A second poster, prepared by the food safety wing of the health department, encourages traditional and chemical-free methods of ripening mangoes. The minister warned vendors and traders against using banned agents like calcium carbide and stated that such practices could lead to legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Food safety officials have been asked to increase monitoring efforts across markets and storage units. Regular inspections will be carried out to identify and penalise violators. Rajanarasimha said the department’s actions were meant to protect public health while requesting cooperation from vendors and market associations.
