Ponnam Prabhakar Seeks Sub-Quota for SC, ST, OBCs in Women’s Reservation
He listed the six guarantees, including free RTC travel for women, Rythu Bharosa, fine rice distribution and crop loan waiver

ADILABAD: Transport and BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday demanded that the Centre provide sub-quotas for BCs, SCs and STs within the proposed women’s reservation framework, citing concerns over representation following delimitation of Assembly and Parliament constituencies and the national caste census.
Speaking to reporters, he said the Congress was not against women’s reservation but insisted that marginalised communities would otherwise lose political representation if sub-quotas were not introduced.
He alleged that the BJP had no commitment towards women’s empowerment and said the party had not placed women in top constitutional positions, unlike the Congress.
He said the Congress had given key positions to women, including Speaker of the Lok Sabha and President of India, and appointed women as Chief Ministers in several states. He criticised the BJP’s approach, calling it “against democracy” and an attempt to push decisions through its Lok Sabha majority.
The minister also challenged BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for an open debate on the implementation of the six guarantees and development initiatives, as well as governance during the BRS regime, at Komaram Bheem Chowrasta in Adilabad.
He listed the six guarantees, including free RTC travel for women, Rythu Bharosa, fine rice distribution and crop loan waiver.
Congress leaders were present at the programme.
