Ponnam Launches Monsoon Drive to Curb Mosquito-Borne Diseases in Hyderabad

As part of the Special Monsoon Drive to be conducted from August 11 to 21, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) programme on measures to be taken to prevent mosquitoes was launched by Prabhakar at the Minister’s Quarters here.

Speaking on the occasion, Entomology department officials explained to the Minister the programmes being undertaken to create awareness among the public about mosquito prevention. The Minister inspected various equipment being used for mosquito prevention and enquired with the officials about their usage, functioning and other details.

Several programmes are being undertaken as part of preventive measures to control mosquito-borne diseases. Prabhakar stated that as part of protecting the health of Hyderabad residents, the GHMC is conducting door-to-door programmes to create awareness among people about cleanliness of their surroundings.

He advised everyone to keep their homes and surroundings clean with a sense of personal responsibility. He urged people to remove stagnant water in and around their homes every Friday as part of the ‘Friday–Dryday’ programme and take precautions to prevent mosquito larvae from breeding.

The Minister said that the government is taking preventive measures to prevent diseases such as dengue, and that people should also cooperate with the government and ensure that water does not stagnate around their homes.

He stated that no matter how many measures the government takes, Hyderabad will remain healthy only when people keep their homes and surroundings clean. The Minister made it clear that taking preventive precautions to avoid diseases is better than seeking treatment after a disease occurs.

Prabhakar urged everyone to follow the GHMC’s appeal and become partners in mosquito prevention.
