Ponnam Asks Hyderabad Agencies To Stay Alert As Rain Continues

Hyderabad: Telangana is likely to receive rain or thundershowers at many places from September 17, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph expected at isolated places across all districts, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Rain is expected at isolated places on September 15 and 16 before becoming more widespread from September 17 to 19. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam on September 19, while heavy rain along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds could continue at isolated places on September 20 and 21.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed GHMC, HYDRAA, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, electricity, police and revenue departments to remain alert and coordinate on rain preparedness.
He asked officials to monitor the Himayatsagar and Osmansagar catchments, particularly with heavy rain possible in Vikarabad and Sangareddy. If reservoir gates have to be opened into the Musi, downstream residents should be alerted in advance and arrangements made to shift people from low-lying areas.
With Ganesh Chaturthi under way, officials were also asked to monitor pandals, immersion points, roads and vulnerable areas. Mr Prabhakar directed immediate removal of silt and debris from desilting works, and asked departments to keep Airtech machines and monsoon emergency teams ready. He also called for continuous public alerts on waterlogging, traffic and dangerous areas, saying, “Let us stay alert and keep people alert.”
