Ponguleti Slams BRS For Mudslinging Cong. For Votes In Municipal Elections

After coming to power, the Congress government issued new ration cards and began supplying fine rice to beneficiaries: Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy

NALGONDA: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Monday alleged that BRS leaders were indulging in false propaganda against the state government as they were unable to digest its success in implementing welfare schemes and development programmes.

Addressing a roadshow covering Wards 2, 22, 23, 24, 26 and 27 in Edulapuram municipality of Khammam district, he said people had already rejected the BRS in the Lok Sabha and gram panchayat elections, following its defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections. He alleged that the BRS was resorting to mudslinging out of fear that public support for the Congress government was growing due to its welfare initiatives, and that its leaders were apprehensive about the party’s political future.

The minister accused the BRS of neglecting people’s welfare during its 10-year rule and said the party had no moral right to seek votes in the municipal elections, having failed to issue new ration cards and diluted the housing scheme during its tenure. He urged people not to believe BRS leaders when they approach voters during the municipal polls.

Indirectly targeting BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, he said the leader, who spent time in a farmhouse and travelled by helicopter, never visited urban colonies when they were submerged during floods or when overflowing drains made people’s lives miserable.

He said that after coming to power, the Congress government issued new ration cards and began supplying fine rice to beneficiaries. He added that the Indiramma Housing Scheme had been revived, with 4.5 lakh houses sanctioned to poor families in the first phase.

The minister assured that karakatta works in Edulapuram would be completed by June. He said a retaining wall being constructed along the Munneru river at a cost of ₹690 crore would provide a permanent solution to flooding of residential areas. He added that drinking water connections would be provided to every household and that development works worth ₹308 crore were currently under progress in the town.

Calling on voters to support the Congress, he appealed to people to ensure the victory of Congress candidates in the municipal elections for the development of their town.
