Ponguleti: Don’t Fall For Opposition Lies

Srinivas Reddy slams BRS, urges voters to back Congress in Edulapuram

Nalgonda: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Saturday urged people not to believe what he described as “cock-and-bull stories” spread by Opposition parties to secure votes in the ongoing municipal elections.

Campaigning in Edulapuram in support of Congress candidates, he said Opposition leaders surface only during elections and try to mislead voters with unrealistic promises. He alleged that the BRS had no moral right to seek votes, having failed to provide pucca houses to the urban poor during its 10-year rule.

Recalling the hardships faced by people under the previous BRS government, the minister alleged that its leadership focused on amassing personal wealth while neglecting public welfare. He cited the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme as an example, alleging that public spending and borrowings under the project pushed Telangana into debt and reflected corruption under the earlier regime. He further charged the BRS with backtracking on its pre-poll promises after coming to power in the 2014 and 2019 Assembly elections.

Stating that the Congress government has fulfilled all but one or two of its election promises since assuming office, Srinivas Reddy said the present dispensation would not resort to delaying tactics or grand statements. He highlighted the revival of the Indiramma housing scheme, under which 4.5 lakh houses were sanctioned in the first phase at a cost of ₹22,500 crore. He reiterated that all eligible families would be covered in the next three phases and said the second phase would begin in April.

Highlighting welfare initiatives, he referred to free bus travel for women in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation buses, free electricity up to 200 units for domestic connections, LPG cylinder refills at ₹500, and enhanced welfare benefits for the poor.

The minister assured that Edulapuram municipality would be developed as a model for the state. He said the retaining wall along the Munneru river would be completed before the next monsoon, permanently resolving the problem of residential areas being submerged during floods. He appealed to voters to support Congress candidates to accelerate the municipality’s development.
