Ponguleti: Congress Welfare Schemes Reflect In Lives Of Poor

The welfare of the poor was the core agenda of the Congress government, which was committed to fulfilling all its poll promises: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy

NALGONDA: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Saturday said the State government was maintaining a balance between the implementation of welfare schemes and development works so that growth is reflected in the lives of the poor.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the integrated offices building at Yedulapuram in Khammam Rural mandal of Khammam district, he said the welfare of the poor was the core agenda of the Congress government, which was committed to fulfilling all its poll promises. He listed the issuance of new ration cards, supply of fine rice to ration cardholders, free bus travel for women in TGSRTC services, and the Indiramma housing scheme as some of the promises already fulfilled.

He said the Indiramma Houses scheme would realise the dream of lakhs of poor families to own a house and would also enhance their dignity in society. In the first phase, 4.5 lakh houses have been sanctioned to eligible beneficiaries, with works at various stages of completion, and housewarming ceremonies already conducted at several places across the State. He made it clear that Indiramma houses would be sanctioned to all eligible poor families within the next three years. The second phase of the scheme would be taken up in April 2026, he added.

The minister said the Congress government was also undertaking development works on a large scale to position Telangana at the forefront in all sectors. These works, he said, were designed to create wealth for the State while improving the living standards of the people. He added that the government’s focus was on ensuring that development genuinely reflects in people’s lives.

Stating that the government was moving towards housing all mandal-level offices under one roof for public convenience, he instructed officials to complete the integrated offices building for Khammam Rural mandal within nine months. The project, taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.45 crore, will accommodate offices of 13 departments. He also directed officials to ensure quality construction.

District collector Anudeep Durishetty said waiting rooms and lounges would be provided at the new Khammam Rural mandal office on the lines of the district Collectorate.

Later, the revenue minister distributed Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques to 129 beneficiaries.
