Ponguleti Confident of Cong. Sweep in Municipal Polls

Earlier, the minister handed over B Forms to party nominees. He directed candidates to highlight welfare schemes and development works during the campaign and called for coordinated efforts to secure a high majority for Congress in the polls.

Nalgonda: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Congress would sweep the forthcoming municipal elections in the state, saying people were backing the government for its welfare schemes that had changed their lives.

Campaigning in Yedulapuram municipality in Khammam district, he said Congress nominees would win across the municipality. He noted that the party already secured support in the Lok Sabha and gram panchayat elections, and the trend would continue in the municipal polls.

He listed welfare measures such as issuance of new ration cards, supply of fine rice to cardholders, free bus travel for women in TGRTC services, free household power up to 200 units, crop loan waivers and interest-free loans to women’s self-help groups, which he said had directly benefited the poor and improved their living conditions.

Criticising the BRS for failing to provide housing to the poor, he accused the previous government of diluting the scheme under the pretext of double-bedroom houses that remained on paper. He assured that the Congress government would sanction house sites to the landless and provide Indiramma houses in phases. In the first phase, 4.5 lakh houses have already been sanctioned, while the second phase will be launched in April.

He further promised to develop Yedulapuram as a model municipality, completing pending CC roads and drainage works by summer. He urged voters to support Congress candidates in the municipal elections.

Earlier, the minister handed over B Forms to party nominees. He directed candidates to highlight welfare schemes and development works during the campaign and called for coordinated efforts to secure a high majority for Congress in the polls.
