ADILABAD: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Friday urged party workers to secure a clean sweep in the upcoming local body elections and demonstrate the party’s strength across Telangana. He asked cadres to publicise the state government’s welfare and development schemes, including the six guarantees, in every household.
The minister and Khammam MP Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy addressed a preparatory meeting of leaders from four mandals in Kothagudem, organised by Alla Murali. Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that Raghuram Reddy has been appointed party in charge for the Kothagudem Assembly constituency.
Highlighting recent initiatives, the minister cited the introduction of 42 per cent reservations, an ordinance benefiting Backward Classes, and the plan to conduct a caste census, measures he called “historic” and proof of the party’s commitment to Rahul Gandhi’s promises. He accused the BRS of depleting the state exchequer and misusing public funds on projects such as the Kaleshwaram irrigation scheme and the Dharani portal.
“The Congress keeps its promises, whether through Indiramma housing or ration cards,” he said, adding that the government will soon approve another 1,500 Indiramma houses for each Assembly constituency.
Raghuram Reddy noted that the party enjoys a substantial vote bank in Kothagudem and must leverage welfare programmes to consolidate support.
Mahila Congress president Thota Devi Prasanna, former ZP chairman Kancharla Chandrasekhar, INTUC district vice-president Md Razak, and Youth Congress leaders Chikati Karthi, Thumu Chowdhary and Peddababu were also present.
