Poll Chief Among 93 L Voters Served Notices
Officials clarified that minor errors such as initials can be corrected by submitting Form 8.
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy is among nearly 93 lakh voters who received notices from the Election Commission of India (ECI) over mismatches in voter records.
The anomaly arose due to differences in initials. While the SIR 2002 records and the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) carried his initials as “C”, the Aadhaar card issued later mentioned his full surname. Officials said the system-generated notices spared none, including the CEO. “This is not a major issue. Everyone served notices must upload the required details, and the CEO will also comply,” sources said.
By Wednesday, over 34 lakh notices had been issued out of 92.88 lakh voters flagged. Of these, at least 32 lakh ‘unmapped’ voters are at risk of deletion. Officials clarified that minor errors such as initials can be corrected by submitting Form 8.
The anomalies were detected through ERONET, a centralised web-based application introduced by the ECI in 2017 to manage electoral rolls. ERONET digitalises voter registration and generates reports to identify duplicate entries, including Photo Similar Entries (PSE) and Demographic Similar Entries (DSE).
