Politicians Use Immersion For Public Reachout

Political parties used Ganesha immersion processions in the city to reach out to voters as they geared up for the Assembly and municipal elections and the Khairatabad byelection.

Members of the Congress, BRS and BJP used the processions to connect with people, with songs associated with political parties being played and photographs of politicians prominently displayed on flex banners tied to heavy vehicles carrying Ganesh idols.

Several MLAs in Hyderabad visited pandals, met organisers and spent time at immersion processions. Former corporators and those seeking tickets for the posts of corporator or mayor were also seen at processions in their respective jurisdictions.

This year, apart from decorated heavy vehicles carrying the idols, some pandal organisers used wheeled platforms resembling trolleys to display sculptures, artwork and other props.

The trolleys, placed in front of the heavy vehicles, featured sculptures of Chhatrapati Shivaji, Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar and other figures. Some politicians used the displays, including the colours of flags used for decoration, to indicate their political ideology or affiliation.

Politicians wearing party scarves spent considerable time at the processions, dancing and greeting people as part of their outreach in their respective areas.
