Police seek closure of PILs in Nerella case

Hyderabad: The Rajanna Sircilla police on Wednesday requested the Telangana High Court to close the PILs filed in 2017 seeking action against police officers who allegedly tortured eight Dalit and backward class youths belonging to Nerella, Jillela and Ramachandrapuram villages in Sircilla district.

The PILs complained that the youths were beaten brutally under the supervision of then SP and an SI as the victims opposed
constant plying of up to 200 lorries everyday which was filled with sand excavated from Tangalapally Vagu. More than four villagers died at that time due to speeding lorries plying on the village roads.
As the PILs are pending since 2017, the High Court on January 2 had directed the state government to submit the status of the probe in the case.
The district police filed a counter mentioning that the inquiry was conducted based on the allegations against the then SI Ravinder and the charges were not proven.
Moreover, the police also submitted that the accused had burnt a lorry in the village and an FIR was registered against them. Due to the pending nature of the PILs, further investigation in the case could not take place as the matter is sub-judice, the police said and sought closure of the PILs.
