Police Jurisdictions Reorganised Across Hyderabad

The re-organisation also stated the traffic policing arrangements.

Hyderabad:Telangana government re-organised the jurisdictional limits of the Hyderabad City, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri police commissionerates in view of the restructuring of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), redrawing 76 police stations, division and zone boundaries, including the traffic police station and women safety wing.

The government order is aimed at aligning the police jurisdictions with the revised administrative boundaries and improving supervision, response time and law-and-order management. The order contains 76 units covering law-and-order, traffic, women-safety and cybercrime-related jurisdictions.

Under the changes, several localities that were earlier handled by one police station or zone or commissionerate will now come under another jurisdiction. For instance, portions of the Market police station limits, which were in Hyderabad commissionerate have been shifted to the Malkajgiri commissionerate, while the Begumpet ward portion will remain with Hyderabad commissionerate. The notification also mentions changes involving areas under Shamshabad, Narsingi, Hayathnagar, Abdullapurmet and other stations.

The re-organisation also stated the traffic policing arrangements. Several traffic police stations and divisions have been re-assigned to new divisions, while the women safety wing and zonal cyber cells have also been mapped to the revised jurisdictional structure.

For the Malkajgiri commissionerate, the government has created a new Uppal law and order zone, along with Uppal, Medipally and Alwal divisions, and a new Uppal traffic division. The existing Begumpet law and order zone is abolished. In Cyberabad commissionerate too, similar shifts of several colonies and villages between existing police stations, divisions and zones are stated.

The re-organisation also brings a change in the name of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police station. The notification states that the RGIA police station will be renamed as Shamshabad police station, with the station continuing under the Shamshabad jurisdiction. The traffic police station arrangement has also been revised under the restructured Shamshabad division.

Interestingly, with the Banjara Hills and Madhuranagar police stations now brought under the newly re-organised Jubilee Hills zone, the ACP-level arrangement is also set to continue with an in-charge officer. Jubilee Hills zone ACP P. Venkatagiri is currently involved in the SIT probe into the phone tapping case, following which Banjara Hills ACP Venkat Reddy was made in-charge ACP of the Jubilee Hills zone. With the earlier Banjara Hills zone being removed under the re-organisation, Venkat Reddy is expected to continue as the in-charge ACP for the Jubilee Hills zone, while Venkatagiri remains associated with the SIT investigation, confirmed a source to Deccan Chronicle.
