Police Intensify Crackdown on Ganja Smuggling in Erstwhile Warangal

WARANGAL: Police have intensified the crackdown on ganja smuggling in the erstwhile Warangal district, with Wardhannapet and Damer police seizing 380 kg of the contraband in separate operations and arresting three persons.

Wardhannapet police seized around 129 kg of ganja during vehicle checks and arrested two persons. Special teams have been formed to trace two other suspects allegedly involved in the network.

Within a day, Damer police seized 251 kg of ganja in another operation. An interstate smuggler was arrested in the case, while ganja worth around Rs 1.25 crore was recovered from his house.

The Warangal Police Commissionerate has stepped up surveillance on the transportation, storage and sale of ganja. The Drugs Control Team has registered several cases, seized narcotic substances worth crores of rupees and destroyed confiscated ganja as part of the enforcement drive.

Police are also tracing the supply routes used to transport ganja from Odisha through Telangana to other states and investigating the network to identify key persons involved in the supply chain.
