Police Dismiss Rumours Of Kidnap In Warangal

Rumours of a “drunk kidnap attempt” spread like a wildfire through social media.

WARANGAL: A high-voltage drama has unfolded after a minor girl was seen in a distressed state while she was travelling with two individuals on Monday night in the Mattewada region in Warangal city.

Rumours of a “drunk kidnap attempt” spread like a wildfire through social media. However, police and local authorities later clarified that this was a misunderstanding and not a criminal abduction.

Locals observed two young men, allegedly in an inebriated state, traveling on a two-wheeler with a minor girl. Noticing the girl’s visible panic, some bystanders intercepted the vehicle.

Tension escalated when a car arrived at the scene and the individuals attempted to leave the sport along with the girl. This led to a confrontation between the locals and the youths, leading to police intervention.

The Mattewada police took the individuals into custody for questioning. Preliminary investigations and medical evaluations suggested that the injury observed on the girl’s hand was a minor scratch likely caused by a door hook, rather than this being a sign of an assault.

“The girl panicked after seeing a dangling object in a bathroom, mistaking it for a snake, which led to a chain reaction of anxiety and confusion,” he said.

The police urged the public and social media users to stop circulating fake news and ‘kidnap’ narratives. “The girl is a minor. Sensationalizing the event could cause damage to her name and her family’s reputation,” police said.

While the kidnap angle has been ruled out, the police are investigating the conduct of the youths, particularly their alleged rude behaviour towards the public, likely under the influence of alcohol.
