Police Dept Comes Up With 25 Parameters To Check Cops’ Deaths By Suicide: Telangana DGP
Necessary instructions have been given to SPs to consult the policemen who are facing stress

Telangana DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy.
Hyderabad: Rise in the number of deaths by suicide among policemen has become undoubtedly a matter of concern, whether the cause of taking the extreme step may be related to family issues, personal reasons or financial hardships, Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy said during the annual press conference on Tuesday.
“Officials working in the police department are burdened with work and many times they had to work in unusual situations. If family or personal issues were associated with them while working, then it becomes stressful,” Shivadhar, said.
In such a situation, some policemen take extreme step and police department is working on it to resolve the problem, he added.
Additional DGPs Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat and Charu Sinha, who were present, said that a programme with 25 mapping parameters has been prepared to solve the problem.
Necessary instructions have been given to SPs to consult the policemen who are facing stress. Similarly, 750 police inspectors (SHOs) deputed at different police stations of the state have also been asked to visit Telangana police headquarters and given instructions and training to counsel the policemen who are facing stress.
Bhagwat said, if necessary, policemen suffering from mental stress will be given leave and sent to a psychiatrist for counselling and treatment. He said that by consulting them through 25 questions, information will be obtained to find out whether the policeman, who is suffering from stress, has the tendency to die by suicide. If so, such policemen will be referred to a psychiatrist for consultation and medical care will be provided to them. It is worth noting that some policemen, especially police constables and Home Guards, died by suicide due to addiction to online betting games in the past few years, Mahesh Bhagwat said. In some cases, constables, including women policemen, died by suicide due to financial constraints.
