Police Constable Among Two Arrested In Couple Murder Case

Mothe police arrested a constable and another man in connection with the murder of a couple in Suryapet district. Police allege the constable planned the killings over a ₹3 lakh loan dispute.

Mothe police on Friday arrested two persons, including a police constable, in connection with the murder of a couple at Mothe in Suryapet district.

The arrested were identified as Md Shareef, 23, a constable attached to Mothe police station, and Gillepally Surender, 40, a resident of Mothe.

Superintendent of police K. Narsimha, while presenting the arrested persons at a media conference at the district police office in Suryapet, said Shareef had come to know the couple, Bhooba and Nagulu, through Surender.

The couple had allegedly borrowed `3 lakh from Shareef. When he sought repayment, they allegedly threatened to lodge a complaint against him under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the SP said.

According to the police, Shareef subsequently planned to kill the couple and sought Surender's help. On Thursday evening, Surender took Bhooba on a moped to an agricultural field near the underbridge on the outskirts of Penpahad on the pretext of digging.

The police said Surender and Shareef attacked Bhooba and buried him in a pit that had already been dug. Nagulu was later brought to the same place and killed, following which the bodies were buried in the agricultural field.

Police examined CCTV footage from several locations and found Surender taking Bhooba towards the underbridge on a moped. Surender was subsequently arrested and allegedly disclosed Shareef's involvement in the killings.
