HYDERABAD: Kulsumpura police booked the biological parents and two mediators for selling a newborn boy to a childless couple for Rs 1.70 lakh.
The police registered a case of organised child trafficking on a zero FIR for illegal sale and transfer of a newborn. The case was transferred to Nandigama police station, Rangareddy district for further investigation, on jurisdictional grounds.
A. Ramulu, SHO, Kulsumpura, said they acted on a complaint on Tuesday from K. Ramu, a protection officer at woman and child welfare department (CWC), following a CWC enquiry confirmed the illegal sale of the infant.
The enquiry revealed that Madhusudhan and Meena, married for 18 years and childless, approached mediator Potharaju Suresh, a resident of Pukatnagar, Jiyaguda to adopt a child. Suresh contacted another mediator, Padma Paltiya.
The infant was born to Paltiya’s relative, Mohan and his wife Sandhya on May 28 at Lakshmi hospital in Tukkuguda. As the infant was born with a physical disability the biological parents agreed to hand over the infant to Paltiya, who transferred the infant to the childless couple through Suresh at JP Dargah, Kothur Mandal, Rangareddy district for an amount of Rs 1.70 lakh, SHO said.
As the entire transaction and transfer of the child were carried out illegally, without following any procedures for adoption, the child safety wing produced the infant before CWC, Hyderabad. As per CWC order, the baby boy was admitted to Shishu Vihar, near Madhuranagar Metro Station, Ameerpet, Hyderabad, for immediate care, safety, and protection.
