Hyderabad:A 21-year-old delivery agent from Mahabubnagar was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting and impregnating a 16-year-old girl near IDPL in Balanagar.
According to Balanagar woman sub-inspector Saritha Patel, the accused, Hari Krishna, recently completed his BA and moved to the city for work. The two had been in contact on Instagram and exchanged phone numbers. On May 13, Hari Krishna reportedly took the minor, who is pursuing her Intermediate, to a temple in IDPL and then to a secluded spot nearby, where he allegedly assaulted her twice.
The matter came to light when the girl experienced stomach pain and consulted a doctor, who confirmed the pregnancy. A case under relevant sections of the Pocso Act was registered on August 9, and the accused was remanded on August 12. Investigation is ongoing.
4,292 from TG selected for Haj ‘26
Hyderabad:The Haj Committee of India completed the digital random selection process for Haj 2026 on Wednesday. From Telangana, 4,292 applicants were selected, including 836 in the reserved category for those above 65 years of age and 65 women under the mehram quota.
Selected applicants have been informed via SMS. The Telangana State Haj Committee received 11,557 applications this year, with 7,265 on the waiting list. Haj Committee chairman Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani (Khusro Pasha) urged those selected to pay their first instalment by August 20 without delay.
Damaged pipeline disrupts traffic
Hyderabad:In the limits of O&M Division-9 of the Water Board, a 450-mm diameter RCC sewer pipeline at Pragathi Nagar Road No. 6 has been frequently getting damaged, causing sewage to overflow almost every alternate day, inconveniencing residents and disrupting heavy vehicle movement almost every day.
Inspection by officials revealed that the 18-foot deep manhole at the site had completely collapsed at the bottom. Barricades have been placed around the damaged manhole and jetting vehicles, silt grabbers and sewer maintenance staff have been deployed to temporarily control the overflow. Officials said reconstruction of the collapsed manhole will begin immediately after the rains subside.
Woman killed as RTC bus hits scooter
Hyderabad: A 45-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter was killed when an RTC bus hit the vehicle from behind on the Nalgonda crossroads flyover on Tuesday. Chaderghat police stated that deceased was identified as Sindhu Suryan, a resident of Red Hills in Nampally, and she was travelling with her son from Nampally to Judges Colony.
Police said her son, who was wearing a helmet, was driving the scooter while she was without any protective gear. As they were moving on the flyover towards Paltan, the RTC bus heading towards Achampet from MGBS, hit their scooter from behind.
The deceased’s son stated that the bike skidded and his mother fell on the road and sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. The son, however, escaped with minor bruises. The errant driver Venkatesh alias Kasanna was charged with negligent driving and a case was filed. The body was shifted for post-mortem examination. Police said initial findings pointed to negligent driving by the bus driver and appealed to people the importance of wearing helmet for both the rider and pillion as safety measures.
ED books Al Kabeer for violating norms
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad zonal office of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has filed a chargesheet against Al Kabeer Exports Pvt. Ltd. and its director for generating illegal money by not complying with the statutory requirement to treat hazardous solid meat waste.
This ED case follows a complaint filed by the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) before the Special Mobile Judicial First Class Magistrate, Sangareddy. The TSPCB alleged that the company, which processes frozen buffalo meat, had obtained permission to ensure proper classification and disposal of all solid waste generated during animal slaughter, as per board norms.It was alleged that the company failed to adhere to these norms and committed offences under Sections 24 and 43 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
During the investigation, the ED found that the company had not complied with the statutory requirement to treat hazardous solid meat waste, instead disposing of it in open areas, leading to the pollution of surface and groundwater in surrounding localities.
By committing the scheduled offence, the company allegedly generated proceeds of crime amounting to `61 lakh.According to the ED, this amount, instead of being spent on treating hazardous waste, was diverted by the company and its Director for other purposes. Earlier, the agency had attached movable property in the form of a fixed deposit worth `61 lakh belonging to the firm.
