Philanthropist Babukhan Passes Away at 83

Hyderabad: Ghiasuddin Babukhan, prominent real estate builder and founder of the Hyderabad Zakat Trust, passed away here on Monday following prolonged illness. He was 83. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter.
Khan was known for his philanthropic work in education for the underprivileged. Over the past three and a half decades, he provided scholarships that enabled thousands of deserving students, many from small villages, to pursue higher education, with many going on to become doctors and engineers. He also campaigned for the remarriage of young widows and helped secure housing for hundreds of widows.
Recalling his simplicity, educationist Maria Arifuddin said, “I have known him since I was a child. He never took pride in his wealth; at programmes he would often sit in the back rows. My father, a close friend, would insist he come on stage, but he would decline. He wore simple clothes, and humility always reflected in his persona. This is a family among the richest Muslims of Hyderabad, and they set the right example.”
Several leaders mourned his passing on social media. Asaduddin Owaisi posted on X: “The passing of Ghiasuddin Babukhan is a great loss for Hyderabad. He was a dedicated philanthropist whose efforts in educating the poor will be remembered. My condolences to his family and friends. May Allah grant him maghfirah and patience to his loved ones.”
