Phenphad Farmers Forcibly Remove SRSP Regulator Seal

The regulator, meant to release water to farmers of Penphad mandal, had been sealed by unidentified persons to stop water to Penphad mandal.

Suryapet: Tension prevailed at SRSP canal distributary regulator near Koti Naik Thanda in Athmakur (S) mandal when farmers from Penphad mandal rushed to the place and removed the wielding of the regulator stopping water to their area.

The regulator, meant to release water to farmers of Penphad mandal, had been sealed by unidentified persons to stop water to Penphad mandal.

When officials didn’t respond to their complaint, a large number of farmers reached Koti Naik Thanda and removed the wielding seal.

The agitators alleged that farmers of Mothe mandal sealed the regulator and diverted water to Mothe mandal.

K. Saidulu, a farmer from Penphad, alleged that irrigation officials did not respond when water to their mandal was stopped. They were left with no other option but to remove the sealing as their farmlands were drying up.

SRSP officials rushed to the place to avoid a clash between the two groups of farmers and released water to the two regulatory canals.

SRSP executive engineer K. Vijay Kumar said unidentified persons sealed the regulator of the distributary canal with an intention to stop water to Penphad mandal.
