KARIMNAGAR: Pedda Hanuman Jayanti celebrations began at the Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple in Kondagattu, Malliala mandal of Jagtial district on Sunday, with thousands of devotees attending the start of the three-day festival. The proceedings started with the arrival of ‘Sesha Vastrams’ from the Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam. Bhadrachalam temple EO K. Damodar Rao and Choppadandi MLA Medipally Satyam brought the offerings, which were received by Temple EO S. Anjana Reddy and Sthanacharya Kapindar Swamy amid Vedic chants.

A procession was later taken out from the Kondagattu Y-junction to the temple, featuring traditional performances such as Oggu Dolu dances and Kolatam. The ceremonial idols were subsequently shifted from the main temple to the ‘Yagasala’, marking the beginning of the rituals.

Priests conducted Vedic rituals including Swasti Vachanam, Rakshabandhanam and Agni Pratistha, along with Abhishekams and Sahasranamarchana for the presiding deity. Devotional chants of “Jai Sri Ram” and “Jai Hanuman” were raised by devotees at the shrine.

Police deployed 1,100 personnel for security and traffic management under the supervision of superintendent of police Ashok Kumar in view of the expected influx of pilgrims.

Officials said the temple has been illuminated and decorated for the occasion. The celebrations will conclude on May 12, with homas, special prayers and cultural programmes scheduled over the remaining days.
